Sentencing — importing drugs — ephedrine — Class B — Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1978, s 12. The defendant was found guilty of importing what appears to be the largest consignment of a Class B controlled drug (ephedrine) into New Zealand. The drugs weighed approximately 200 kilograms. Aggravating features include the amount of ephedrine imported and the use of disguises. The defendant was given a discount for the time spent on electronically monitored bail, and the entry of a guilty plea. The defendant was sentenced to eight years and two months imprisonment.
