Commit burglary with a weapon — wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm — sentencing.
The court sentenced the defendant on charges including burglary with a weapon and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, The defendant went to the home of the 77 year old victim armed with an engineer's hammer with a plan to rob him. The elderly victim was immediately attacked with blows and kicks and was rendered unconscious and still attacked from that point with a piece of firewood resulting in serious injuries. Aggravating features include premeditation, the use of a weapon, attack to the head, extreme violence, home invasion, facilitation of theft, the vulnerability of the victim and resulting serious injury. The defendant was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment.
