Aggravated robbery — sentencing — R v Mako [2000] 2 NZLR 170 (CA) — Tiori v R [2011] NZCA 355. The defendant appeared for sentencing after being found guilty at jury trial of one count of aggravated robbery. The defendant went to the victim's property with two others at 4 o'clock in the morning under the premise of discussing money that he owed the victim. The defendant then pulled a knife on the victim and over the next three hours the defendant and the co-offenders helped themselves to the victims property. $15,000 was also demanded from the victim. The court took into account that there was planning, premeditation, presence of a weapon and there was a vulnerable victim who lived alone. The defendant was sentenced to six years and nine months imprisonment and was given a strike warning. Judgment Date: 2 February 2018
