The defendant faced sentence on one charge of male assaults female, eleven charges of assault on a child and four charges of assault with a weapon. The victims were his four daughters, and the assaults occurred over a five-year period. The victims had suffered significantly and at least one of them continued to suffer ongoing effects. The offending had several aggravating features including the length of time it covered, the number of victims and the breach of trust. Comparing the offending to similar cases, the Judge set the starting point for sentencing at three years, five months. The Judge allowed a two-month reduction for time the defendant spent on bail during the trial, and arrived at a final sentence of three years, three months' imprisonment.
