Application for inpatient treatment order — Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 — Substance Addiction (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 2017, s 11. The subject person had two applications made in respect of his treatment, one under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act (the MH Act) and one under Substance Addiction (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act (the SA Act). The subject person had a diagnosis of psychosis that had always been complicated by underlying substance abuse problems. The Judge initially, with the subject person's consent, made an inpatient treatment order under the MH Act. However, after discussions with relevant medical professionals and the District Inspector, it was decided an order under the SA Act was more appropriate. This would allow the subject person to be treated at a specialist facility. The inpatient treatment order was revoked and an order for compulsory treatment under the SA Act was made. Judgment Date: 11 December 2019. * * * Note: names have been changed to comply with legal requirements. * * *
