Sentencing — supplying methamphetamine — possession of methamphetamine for supply — organised crime — Zhang v R [2019] NZCA 507, [2019] 3 NZLR 648. The defendant was for sentence on charges of supplying methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine for supply. He had been part of a drug ring operating in the Waikato, that was investigated and eventually arrested by a police Organised Crime Squad. The defendant's role in the drug ring was supplying methamphetamine for others to sell. The Court assessed the offending as falling into band 4 of R v Zhang, and set a start point for sentence of 11 years nine months' imprisonment. With reductions for guilty plea, cooperation with the police investigation, and background factors, the final sentence was six years 10 months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 30 October 2020
