Sentencing — possession of methamphetamine for supply — Zhang v R [2019] NZCA 507, [2019] 3 NZLR 648. The defendant was for sentence on two charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply. He had supplied methamphetamine to a drug ring operating in the Waikato. The total amount supplied was some 34 ounces, and the offending fell into band 4 of R v Zhang. Given the amount of drugs involved and the defendant's prominent role in the criminal enterprise, the start point for sentence was 10 years six months' imprisonment. The Court made discounts for guilty plea and background factors. The final sentence was seven years four months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 19 August 2022
