Sentencing — arson — petrol theft — no guiding tariff. The defendant appeared for sentence on a charge of arson. The fire in question started when the intoxicated defendant lit a cigarette while trying to siphon petrol from a car. The Court noted his long history of alcohol abuse and offending while intoxicated. In mitigation he seemed genuinely remorseful for causing the fire. The Court imposed a sentence of eight months' home detention and reparations of $3000. Judgment Date: 23 February 2022.
