Sentencing — SPCA — breach of order — costs — community work — supervision — probation — disqualification — forfeiture of animals. The defendant appeared for sentence on four matters in respect of breaches relating to animal welfare. The defendant had previously been dealt with by the Court on animal welfare charges but had failed to dispose of the animals in her care and breached disqualification. The Judge sentenced the defendant to 12 months' supervision, in which time she would be required to attend any programme, assessment for counselling, or treatment directed by her probation officer. The Judge also imposed 80 hours of community work, representing a starting point of 60 hours with an uplift of 20 hours for prior offending. Further, the defendant was ordered to meet the costs incurred by the SPCA totalling $6561.62, as well as costs to the prosecution of $1000 (to also be paid to the SPCA) and $130 in Court costs for each charge. Finally, a disqualification order of 10 years was imposed. Judgment Date: 4 March 2019.
