Children in need of care and protection — Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989, ss 14(1)(a), 14(1)(b), 101. A declaration was sought by the applicant that the three children were in need of care and protection under the Act. That declaration was granted, as well as a custody order in favour of the applicant. As with all children in its care, the applicant sought to undertake a Gateway assessment for the children. Although the mother did not initially consent to this occurring, she gave full consent once she understood the nature of the assessment. **Note: names have been changed to comply with legal requirements.
