Sentencing — possession of methamphetamine for supply — purchase of chemicals — Class A drugs — imprisonment. The defendant appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine for supply. He had purchased chemicals for use in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. A starting sentence of 11 years' imprisonment (132 months) was adopted. This was reduced by 15 per cent to account for the defendant's remorse, personal circumstances, willingness to undertake rehabilitative steps in prison and recognition of the hardships the defendant would face in prison. This brought the sentence down to 112 months. This was then reduced by 25 per cent for the defendant's early guilty plea, and by another four months for time spent on bail, for a final sentence of six years eight months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 12 March 2019.
