Sentencing — arson — burglary — breach of a protection order — breach of release conditions — Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act 2003, s 38 — Criminal Procedure Act 2011, s 147 — Parkinson v R [2019] NZCA 544. The defendant appeared for sentence after pleading guilty to charges of arson, burglary and breach of a protection order. An earlier sentencing indication had pointed to an end sentence of seven years' imprisonment. The Court allowed discounts for the defendant's traumatic childhood, completion of restorative justice, prospects of rehabilitation, remorse and guilty plea. The final sentence was three years 11 months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 18 March 2020.
