Appeal Tenancy Tribunal — full and final settlement — rent arrears — water bills — Residential Tenancies Act 1986. The appellant had sought payment of rent arrears ($1671.43) and payment of water bills ($560.67) from his tenant at the Tenancy Tribunal. However, the Tribunal ordered the appellant to pay the respondent $420, with brief reasons given. Reasons must be provided for any decision of the Tenancy Tribunal. The Judge reviewed the transcript and found the parties had agreed to a full and final settlement. The Judge noted that while the appellant may now have second thoughts about the settlement, it is not usual that a Court will look behind an agreement where the parties have formally agreed. For that reason, the Judge concluded the matter was settled and dismissed the appeal. Judgment Date: 12 March 2019.
