Sentencing — COVID-19 Public Health Response Act 2020, s 26(1) — COVID-19 Public Health Response (Alert Level Requirements) Order 2020, cl 8(1) — New Zealand Police v Rawnsley [2021] NZDC 25342 — WorkSafe New Zealand v Rayner [2022] NZDC 7870. The defendant was for sentence for breaching the COVID-19 public health regulations by refusing to display a QR code in his cafe. He had done so in spite of WorkSafe inspectors and police officers repeatedly advising him of his obligations. Apart from the deliberate offending and repeated non-compliance, the defendant had also publicly advocated for others to flout the law. The defendant was fined $1500. Judgment Date: 29 August 2022.
