Sexual connection with a young person aged between 12 and 16 — indecent communication with a young person — sentencing. The defendant was sentenced on two charges relating to his conduct with a young person, namely, sexual connection and indecent communications. The defendant met the victim at a party and confiscated alcohol from her when he learnt that she was underage. The defendant and victim became friends on social media and communicated via social media. The communication between them included the defendant asking the victim to send naked pictures of her in return for him supplying her with goods. The sexual connection charges involved the defendant taking the victim to his home on several occasions. The defendant offended against the victim by fondling her breasts, digital penetration, performing oral sex on her and requesting that she perform oral sex on him. The court identified aggravating factors as including the difference in ages, deliberate targeting and grooming of the victim and the frequency of the sexual contact. The defendant was given a discount for his guilty pleas and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on the sexual connection charge, with a concurrent sentence of one year's imprisonment on the charge of indecent communication with a young person. The total sentence of imprisonment was three years' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 24 January 2018.
