The defendant appeared for sentence on one charge of sexual violation, one of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, one of rape and three of male assaults female. The victim was his partner and the offending spanned three incidents over a four-month period. The final incident occurred while he was on bail for earlier offending and was not allowed to associate with the victim. Aggravating features were the breach of trust, vulnerable victim, and major harm to the victim. Mitigating features were the late guilty plea, efforts to rehabilitate, and remorse. The Court set a start point of seven years for the sexual offending, with a one-year uplift for the assaults, and an extra a four-month uplift for offending while on bail. The defendant earned reductions for remorse, efforts to rehabilitate and guilty plea, reducing the sentence to six years' imprisonment.
