R v Tekeu [2018] NZDC 1959

Aggravated robbery — wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm — sentencing. The first charge of aggravated robbery related to an aggravated robbery of a takeaway bar. The defendant entered with a rifle, jumped over the counter pointing the rifle at the victim and demanded money. The defendant was given money and he ran off. A few days later the defendant ran up to a vehicle that was in the forecourt of a petrol station, throwing a brick through an open window and hitting the victim in the head; he then stabbed the victim with a large knife multiple times. Aggravating features included the use of extreme violence, serious injury caused to victim, and the use of weapon. The defendant received a discount for pleading guilty and was sentenced to seven years' and five months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 7 February 2018
