Sentencing — MPI — biosecurity — Biosecurity Act 1993. The defendant appeared for sentence, having pleaded guilty to one charge of making a statement or giving information that he knew to be false or misleading to an official of MPI. The defendant knowingly supplied a fraudulent certificate and accompanying information to a senior quarantine official in order to gain a job for which he had no training, putting New Zealand's biosecurity at risk. The Judge, having considered prior case law, set a starting point for the fine at $8000. The Judge granted a 15 percent discount for the defendant's guilty plea, bringing the end sentence to $6800 and Court costs of $130. Judgment Date: 3 July 2018.
