The defendant appeared for sentence following a crime spree over more than seven months. The charges against him included multiple charges of car theft, and other charges including dangerous driving, possession of pipes for consuming methamphetamine, assault, assault on a police officer, and escape from lawful custody. The escape from custody, which involved a broken finger to a corrections officer, two assaults and a car theft, was the lead charge. The Court set a starting point of three years' imprisonment on those charges, and added uplifts of 12 months for two aggravated assaults, 14 months for the charges involving motor vehicles, and three months for the defendant's lengthy conviction history. The total starting point was five and a half years. The Court applied a 25 percent discount for guilty pleas and remorse, for a final sentence of four years four months. Judgment Date: 20 March 2018.
