Sentencing — burglary — using a document for pecuniary advantage — Arahanga v P [2012] NZCA 480. The defendant appeared for sentencing having pleaded guilty to 16 charges; six charges of burglary and 10 charges of using a document. The defendant's burglaries included taking cheque books and credit cards, which the defendant later used. The total amount of reparations sought was $21,737.98. The Judge reviewed starting point submissions by both parties and reached a starting point for the burglary charges of three years' imprisonment, which the Judge uplifted six months for the using documents charges and prior criminal history, respectively. The Judge then applied a discount of 10 months for the defendant's guilty plea, bringing the final sentence to three years' two months' imprisonment. Judgment Date: 23 March 2018.
