Sentencing —burglary — aggravated robbery — R v Mako [2000] 2 NZLR 170. The defendant appeared for sentencing having pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary and a charge of aggravated robbery. The defendant and two other cooffenders attacked a man in his accommodation, punching and stomping on the victim. The Judge reached a starting point of four years and three months, which was the same as the defendant's co-offender. The Judge then applied an uplift of three months for the defendant's previous aggravated robbery conviction in Australia but made a reduction of 30 percent for the defendant's guilty plea and the steps he had taken to better himself. The final sentence was three years and two months for the aggravated robbery charge, and 12 months for the burglary, concurrently served. Judgment Date: 8 May 2018.
