Sentencing — robbery — burglary — unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle —discharge — Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, s 282. The young person, RS, appeared for sentencing on two charges of robbery one each of burglary and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. RS was one of the youngest of a group of youths that broke into a house and later followed an elderly woman to her home and stole her bag. The young person wrote a long letter of apology and showed genuine remorse. RS had also moved cities, started training and had goals to become a builder. His behaviour had been very positive since the move. There was no further offending or breaches of bail. The judge granted a discharge on all charges in recognition of the young person's age, remorse and hard work since the offending.
