Appeal of Tenancy Tribunal — security for costs — District Court Rules 2014, r 18.3 — An Li Tao v Strata Title Administration Limited & Others [2016] NZHC 1821 — An Li Tao v Strata Title Administration Limited & Others [2018] NZHC 848. The appellant, seeking to overturn a Tenancy Tribunal decision, opposed an application for an order to pay security for costs, per r 18.3 of the District Court Rules. The appellant opposed the application on the basis that she was struggling financially and the order would effectively end her ability to pursue the appeal. The Judge reviewed the Tenancy Tribunal decision, the grounds of appeal, and the previously litigious history of the appellant and granted the application for security for costs. The Judge found the appellant had a well-documented history of making unmeritorious claims and taking unnecessary steps prolonging proceedings. The appellant was ordered to pay $890 to the registry no later than 20 working days. Judgment Date: 22 May 2018.
