The Te Ao Mārama vision imagines a journey towards a better place (the world of light) by ensuring all people who come to the District Court can seek justice and be seen, heard, understood and meaningfully participate.
The vision is the District Court’s response to longstanding calls for change to the justice system. It is intended to build on the hard work, commitment and professionalism of all District Court judges over many decades.
Te Ao Mārama is inclusive of all cultures and ethnicities and recognises modern-day New Zealand is a vibrant multi-cultural society with two founding cultures bound together in a spirit of partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi. Ultimately, it is intended to help promote safer communities and thereby help make New Zealand a better place to live.
